Solid Waste Projects (Sanitary Landfills)
Purpose of the Project is to construct a modern Sanitary Landfill System to collect the domestic solid waste from Adapazarı city, 12 towns and 26 villages, various industrial waste of domestic nature and the treated sludge from Adapazarı Wastewater Treatment Plant. In addition, a Chemical Treatment Plant to dispose of the leachate of the landfill site is also envisaged in the scope of the Project. Medical wastes will not be accepted to the landfill.
Adapazarı Solid Waste Project consists of the following units:

Client: Adapazarı Metropolitan Municipality
Date: 2000 - 2003
Total Project Cost: USD 23,000,000
Capacity:
A landfilling area has been designed with a capacity to cover the demand of 12 years (until 2015) of the Project area.
Design population of year 2015 was projected as 482,611. For this population, amount of total domestic waste and the industrial waste with domestic nature is 2,300,251 m3. Adding also the 498,505 m3 treated sludge, the system has been planned for about 2,800,000 m3 storage area in total.
The land planned for the landfill is a woodland of 30 ha. Considering the topographical and geotechnical characteristics of the project area, the landfilling system has been designed as 3 lots to create the maximum landfill area and to minimize the excavation and backfill amounts. Total inner surface area of the lots is 16.3 ha. and the total storage capacity is 2,800,000 m3. Service roads were designed around the lots for access.
For recycling, separation of daily 10-12 tons of waste on average has been designed for the separation facilities where a mechanically supported (loading bunker, raising and separating bands, rotative sieve, magnetic separator, separation cups, paper baling) separation will be performed. Paper, plastics bags, wood, PET bottles, construction waste, aluminum and glass will be manually sorted in this plant. Metals will be sorted automatically by means of a magnetic separator. Materials sorted by qualities will be pressed, baled and sold. Aerated static pile system is used in the Pilot Compost Plant. The compost product obtained will be used as fertilizer. The plant has been designed for a capacity of 100 m3.
