Submarine Outfall Design Works

Overall Total
Outlet length (m) : 1133
Outlet depth (m) : 25
Project: Amasra (Bartin) Sewerage System, Wastewater Biological Treatment Plant and Deep Sea Outfall Project
Client : General Directorate of Bank of Provinces / Turkey
Description of The Work :

Amasra (Bartın) sewerage implementation design was prepared by the General Directorate of Iller Bank in 1987, and the preliminary design, approved in 1988, was prepared according to the principles of the first study report. There is no sewerage system in Amasra in conformity with scientific principles. Wastewater is disposed in septic tanks or discharged directly to the sea. This situation threatens public health. Sewerage system implementation design was prepared to serve a population of 37,000, calculated for the target year of 2022. It was formed as a separate system from stormwater. 1st stage network length is 16,680 m, 2nd stage length is 22,670 m and total 39,359 m. There are 2 pumping stations in the system. Most of the wastewater is transferred to the treatment plan by gravity. Wastewater that cannot be transferred by gravity is planned to be pumped to the collection reservoir by pumping stations. Total length of the forcemain is 1660 m. Pipes are ACP with diameters Ø 250 mm and Ø 400 mm. Offtakes will be constructed with concrete pipes.

Wastewater Treatment Works and Deep Sea Outfall Projects, Active sludge system with extended aeration was preferred as the most appropriate system in preparation stage of the wastewater treatment works designs. In the dimensioning study, demands of 2005 for the first stage and of 2028 for the second stage were taken into consideration. The treatment plant is planned on a land of approximately 10,000 m2. It includes coarse and fine screens, grit removal, aeration tanks (4 No.), settlement tanks, return sludge pumping station, sludge thickener tanks and strip filters. Treated water is discharged by gravity to the sea. Length of the discharge line is 1133 m in total; 633 m on land and 500 m in the sea.
