Water Treatment Plants
Mardin Water Supply Group Project was originally started by the Iller Bank (Bank of Provinces) in 1985, and the design studies were approved in 1986. However, the design could not be implemented because of the lack of financial resource. Once the construction of Mardin Sewerage was started in 1997 again by the Iller Bank, the Group Water Supply Project was reconsidered to be updated by targeting the year 2030, and the wastewater treatment plant was also included in the scope of this project.
Water Supply Group Project:
With the Water Supply Group Project, the potable and drinking water demand of the Mardin Province and its Kızıltepe, Nusaybin, Şenyurt, Akarsu, Yeşilli and Kabala districts was planned to be supplied from the Beyazsu source to the north of Nusaybin.
Considering the development of the region in the last 14 years and the new development plans, the project was revised by selecting year 2030 as the new project target, and water intake structures, pumping station, transmission mains, exhaust, air release, cathodic steel pipe protection and reservoirs were designed.
Design population : 735,600
Design flow : 1750 l/sec
The transmission line is 84,806 m long with diameters varying Ø 1000 - Ø 1600 mm, and 31,469 m in varying diameters of Ø 125 - Ø 800 mm, a total of 116,275 m.
Wastewater Treatment Plant:
The wastewater treatment plant was designed in two stages for biological treatment of domestic wastewater for the design horizons 2015 in the first stage and 2030 in the second stage. Extended aerated active sludge system was used as the biological treatment process.
Design population: 1st stage 96,000
2nd stage 150,000
Design flow: 1st stage 22,284 m3/day
2nd stage 37,122 m3/day
Pollutant load: 1st stage 7,416 kgBOD5/day
2nd stage 11,484 kgBOD5/day
The Wastewater Treatment Plant consists of the following main units.
- Coarse and fine screens,
- Aerated grit removal units,
- Aeration ponds,
- Final settlement ponds,
- Return sludge pumping station,
- Sludge thickeners,
- Sludge storage pond,
- Sludge dewatering unit,
Since it was not possible to implement both projects with limited funds, the Mardin Municipality has planned to have these projects executed by international tendering with supply of external credit.
Design, engineering and consulting services of the project have been completed. However, the project was terminated in the tender stage because foreign credit could not be obtained.
SERVICES:
- Preparation of the preliminary designs for tender, (completed)
- Preparation of Turkish-English tender documents including the FIDIC specifications principles for the international tender. (completed)
