Water Treatment Plants
Since the potable water sources of Tonya district are insufficient and polluted, it is planned to take water with a new water intake structure on the "Fol" river on 8 km south of the town, for the demand determined according to year 2030 population projections. Project objective is to design a water treatment plant to treat raw water according to Turkish standard of TSE 266.
Water demand of the project in the target year of 2030 is 40 lt/sec.
In the water intake structure with screen on the crest, a settlement pond, spillweir and a washing channel was also designed for the Fol creek.
Treatment Plant Units:
- Inlet structure (pre-chlorination) and aeration, with 12 m3 volume
- Settlement tanks; Total 4 tanks each with 3 m width, 15 m length and 2.5 m depth
- Slow sand filters; Total 3 filters each with 8 m width, 18 m length and 144 m2 area (in total 576 m2)
- Sand washing pond; 1 unit with 3 m width, 3.5 m length
- Washed sand storage pond; with 12 m width, 12 m length and 1.4 m depth, 202 m3 storage volume

- Chlorination unit; with dimensions of 3x6
- Administration building (offices, laboratory, workshop), lodging and guard building and other auxiliary structures have been designed.

Work was started by signing the contract in March 1995, but because of the disputes between the villagers and water board, the Employer had suspended it until July 1995. The work has restarted in March 1998 and was completed in September 1998.
